Umrah Health Guide — Vaccinations, Medications & Safety Tips

Required Vaccinations
Saudi Arabia requires meningitis ACWY vaccine for all Umrah pilgrims — the certificate must be obtained at least 10 days before arrival. COVID-19 vaccination is also required. Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for pilgrims from most African countries.
Recommended Medications to Bring
Pack paracetamol, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhea tablets, rehydration salts, throat lozenges, antihistamines, prescription medications with doctor's letter, antacids, and any personal medications. Pharmacies in Makkah are well-stocked but may not carry specific brands.
Heat Safety
Temperatures in Saudi Arabia can exceed 45°C in summer. Drink at least 3 liters of water daily, wear sunscreen, use an umbrella for shade, rest during peak heat hours (12-3pm), and recognize signs of heat stroke: confusion, rapid heartbeat, and lack of sweating.
Food and Water Safety
Tap water in Saudi Arabia is safe but most pilgrims prefer bottled water. Eat at reputable restaurants, avoid street food if you have a sensitive stomach, and wash hands frequently. Zamzam water is freely available at the Haram.
Special Health Considerations for African Pilgrims
If you take malaria prophylaxis regularly, consult your doctor about continuing during travel. Bring enough of any chronic medication for the full trip plus 5 extra days. Inform Travel Ease of any health conditions before departure so we can arrange appropriate hotel proximity and support.
